Basic steps to have an effective e-commerce website

Electronic commerce or E-commerce is one of the latest business trends nowadays. It mostly deals with the selling and buying of merchandise. E-commerce can be also related to availing or rendering services, may it be from an individual or a company. Just like any type of business, e-commerce should have an effective website to be able to attract possible buyers and clients. However, an e-commerce website is not like a typical non-commercial website. It must include necessary and clear details to hold the interest of the web viewers.

Before creating (or letting someone create) your own e-commerce website, you must first think like the web viewer or the consumer. The products or services should be placed in one or more categories. You may also put two products that compliment each other i.e. mouse and mouse pad or t-shirt and pants. If there you sell a product with different brands and prices, the customers will surely appreciate it if you will show the price progression starting from the cheapest up to the most expensive price. Sometimes, online customers have the tendency to choose the item with a higher price especially if they were shown as options.

Avoid using flashy text or images in your e-commerce website. After all, this is not a webpage for your social networking profile. Keep your e-commerce website simple but professional looking. Have a website with a user-friendly interface especially on the purchasing or payment part of your website. Make your check out process simple and don’t forget to show the price of the item as well as the shipping options. Your store’s e-mail address or phone number may also be included to let the consumers feel confident knowing that they can easily keep in touch with you if they have any questions or problems regarding your merchandise.

The most effective e-commerce websites usually has an easy payment processing. An e-commerce business must accept credit card payments through the help of online merchant accounts or merchant services. These types of online services that allow online purchasers to pay and accept payments, are now available worldwide, thus extending your profit opportunities. In this era where everything can be bought and sold in one click, it will be a hassle for consumers if they still have to snail-mail their payment to your store’s address, which usually takes a week or two before the recipient can get the money order.
