Business Computer Discounts, Promotions, and Coupon Codes

If your company is in the market for new computers, new software or hardware – or any other technology, for that matter – you can score great discounts and savings simply by shopping around. Many big-box stores; computer and technology retailers, and online technology outlets offer coupons or promotional codes for their products. Combine a dedicated search with strategic use of promotional discounts or coupons, and you can save a great deal of money on technology for your company.

The first rule of buying any new piece of technology for your company – be it a RAM stick, a graphics editing software package, or a new jump drive – is that you can usually find it at a deeper discount someplace else, or can find a coupon, rebate, or promo code to lower the price. Never buy the first computer part or technology device you see!

So how does a concerned business owner in the market for new technology or electronics find the right device at the right price?

Search for discount coupons and promo codes for your business

An online search is a great way to find out what kinds of discounts or promotional codes are available for the piece of technology you wish to purchase. Two kinds of online merchants typically offer discount coupons or promotional codes: name-brand vendors (such as Dell, Toshiba, or Macromedia) and specialty stores. The latter kind of merchant, while usually offering a broad selection of technology products, is more likely to specialize in computer, hardware, and software items than to stock many different types of products. With many online merchants, the more pieces you buy, the more money you will save.

Big-box retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy will also periodically offer savings on computer components and other technology. These retailers might offer in-store circulars that boast of sales; other times, these retailers offer at-register coupons. At-register coupons are a wonderfully easy way to save money on computers and accessories; the cashier need only scan the code, and discounts are deducted from your total bill immediately. Like their specialized retail counterparts, big-box stores sometimes offer discounts for buying in bulk.

Another great way to save money on technology is to apply for a membership to a specialty discount club for businesses. These types of organizations exist in many forms. Some are specialized business technology and electronics retailers. Others are computer repair shops or IT companies that offer discounts and promotional coupons for businesses. These discount clubs and organizations should cost very little – or, nothing – to join. If an organization promises deep discounts only after would-be members pay large registration fees up-front, that organization is likely to be a scam shop.

Comparison shop and read reviews

Finding appropriate discount coupons or good deals is one aspect of buying the right computer equipment or devices for your company at the right price. Dedicated comparison shopping is the other half of the equation.

The difference between two brands or types of technology, hardware, or software might shape your purchasing decisions significantly. For example, one of the most heated on-going computer debates is the quarrel between Mac fans and PC fans. To decide whether Macs or PCs are the best purchase for your business, you'll need to take price and function into account. Some computer users require a computer built on a UNIX kernel or want to avoid Microsoft software applications; others prefer a lower-cost machine or one that is compatible with the greatest number of applications. The former group will probably purchase Macs for their business; the latter group will probably prefer PCs. (Then there are alternative groups of computer users -- who might build their own machines; refurbish used ones, or opt to run an open-source OS like Fedora or Ubuntu Linux without paying much attention to fancy applications or extra RAM.) Only comparison shopping and dedicated reading will allow most users to make these kinds of choices.

Comparison shopping for the best discounts and deals is relatively painless in the Internet age. You need only search online for the computer or technology product that interests you most, and you'll get a huge array of prices, offers, and user reviews. Be on the lookout for group specials and deals, too. It pays off in the long run to compare prices between retailers and between technology options. If we re-visit the Mac. v. PC argument for a minute, we can see that the Macintosh is considered to be built on a more stable platform, but when purchased new, is almost always more expensive than a similar PC. However, if you shop carefully and compare prices from several retailers, you might find Macs that you can afford for your company.

Keeping your business current with the latest computer technologies, hardware, and software can be time-consuming and expensive. However, by combining dedicated comparison shopping with money-saving coupons and promotional codes, you can often buy or upgrade technology with very little cost or headache.
