Lou was a clock builder and not a time teller, and he put in place some changes that took time to show results but laid the foundation for a great future. Great work- Lou! Lou surprised the world by taking on as many as two dozen rookies. But what the world did not know was that the rookies would grow up and make the foundation for a solid team.

The reforms that Lou Saban put in place took some years to show and in 1973, under Coach John Ralston, the Denver Broncos turned in a 7-5-2 record with the promise of even better things to come. Coach John Ralston left in 1976 and left the team in the hands of Red Miller who was a new coach, considered by many to be a rookie.

Sometimes rookies bring with them a fresh approach to a game. So it was with Red Miller. The rookie coach who took over in 1976 took the team to its first super bowl – this was the 1978 season where the Denver Broncos lost to the Dallas Cowboys – with a disappointing 27 – 10 score. But this super bowl was the turning point of the team’s fortunes and since then, the Denver Broncos have not had to look back at all.

The last thirty years in the Denver Broncos’ history have been dream years and any game lover knows that watching the Broncos play is the best thing there can be. The speed and the moves that the Broncos bring to the game are simply amazing and account for the vast fan following that the team has acquired.

This fan following has a flip side too – it means that the tickets to the Broncos games are sold out just as they are made available.
