Look Great Again After Giving Birth

By: Dawn Eastman

Okay, this is it; you are a new mother, the baby is finally here; and who is that in the mirror...that can't be you; you still have all that pregnancy weight to get rid of. Well, that's nothing new; a new mother usually carries 10-15 pounds of pregnancy weight after the delivery--sometimes more. So what's the deal now. Action is needed here if you want weight loss after pregnancy; just stop fretting about it and get down to brass tacks working on a plan.

Get your motivation in gear now and call your doctor to confer with him/her about putting together an eating plan with exercises that you will stick to, and face that weight loss head on because it won't be easy. Get busy and get motivated because your plan is not going to do itself, it needs your drive and motivation to bring it to fruition.

Don't fall into the trap of giving in to all the hype that these quick weight loss plans tout about getting you slimmer and fitter and looking like a model in a few weeks time....never happen; this will be work and take some time and effort on your part. If you are thinking of going for a weight loss after pregnancy plan, and you are leaning toward the quickie..lose weight fast plans...stop now and get back on track; those plans are a threat to your wellbeing and can make you sick.

You could be breastfeeding now and that would be a factor in a weight loss plan, not to mention that your body is still recovering from all the hormone swings it has just gone through. Don't give your body more than it can take right now, and starting a rapid weight loss program would be nuts. Allow for a healthy and slow weight loss here; no big rush, just allow about 9 mos. to complete. Follow the 9 month rule: 9 mos. on, 9 mos. off.

Without the weight gain you experienced during pregnancy, you would have no nutritional reserves with which to nourish the newborn child in the form of breastfeeding; Mother Nature has thought of everything. Mother Nature states loud and clear that the mother is to be the sole supporting factor for the nutrition and development of the child, and that mother must possess a good healthy nutritionally rich system of her own to carry that out. The weight you have been carrying now starts to come off naturally once the baby is weaned from breastfeeding. It is interesting to note that after weaning of the baby takes place, many new mothers realize very soon that a lot of their postpartum weight is dropping off significantly.

Recent studies on breastfeeding mothers show that nearly 700 calories are burned per day. There is a lot to be said about many different weight loss plans, but this could be a significant factor in weight loss after pregnancy. To maximize your weight loss plan and get the most out of all the factors involved, you need to figure in your dietary plan and just how much exercise you are getting along with everything else.

While you are breastfeeding and taking care of the other needs of the baby and yourself, you need to have a weight loss plan that will fulfill your nutritional needs, one you can stay with, and one that will kick start your system to get the maximum weight loss in the most gradual period of time. Being healthy is the most basic and most important factor here; if you are not healthy, then you cannot provide for the new little life that you are taking care of, and that life depends on you for everything, including life itself. Your routine should be sensible and an easy one to follow. The most wonderful plan in the world is dead in the water if no one likes it or will follow it, and what good is that. If you plan well and choose the parts of the plan carefully, you will be fine; and now you can be happy in the new life with your baby.
